Emphasis Laid On Participation Of Students At Brain Hurricane Chicago

Brain Hurricane Chicago is one of the leading free tutoring programs for the students. It was prepared by Reed Howard who herself has a teaching background. Her experience in teaching has helped her to create an efficient curriculum for students from kindergarten to 8th grade. Brain Hurricane Chicago contracted with CREP for an independent analysis of the benefits of the training programs provided by them to the students.

CREP stands for the Center of Research in Educational Policy at the University of Memphis. It evaluates "what works" in schools across nation. Brain Hurricane Chicago provided its personnel with its complete 2007–2008 database of the scores of students in all the pre and posttest administrations of age appropriate Iowa Tests of Basic Skills (ITBS) assessments. This helped the CREP in proper evaluation of the research. On comparing both the pre and posttest ITBS assessments, it was observed that the students of Brain Hurricane Chicago showed average gains of around 14%. The evaluation proved that the emphasis is given on reading and math skills as the Brain Hurricane students showed remarkable improvement in Reading and Mathematics.

At Brain Hurricane, movement activities like using innovative math, reading tasks are organized at the beginning of each class. This helps in making the students active participants. Here, the learning processes are designed in such a manner that they engage the students in enhancing their math and reading skills. Skits are performed based on the lessons they have been learnt during day which ensures that the students are alert and also help the students to recall the lessons in a much convenient manner. The education provided at Brain Hurricane is made creative and innovative, so that not only it helps the students in school but also in their real life.
