Brain Hurricane is a free tutoring program for the students where different interesting teaching methods are adopted to make learning a fun process. It was introduced by Reed Howard, who has an experience of over 35 years in teaching, and her experience has helped her a lot in creating new teaching methods which lay stress on practical knowledge instead of theoretical knowledge. This tutoring program offers unique ways to solve different problems. Here the students are taught that for every problem there exist several solutions.
At Brain Hurricane, the students are divided in teams; it makes them learn the importance of team work. They learn to support each other in solving problems which increases the team spirit among them. The division of teams also encourages healthy competition among students as every student tries to perform better than others in his team. This ultimately helps in building the confidence of the students. The curriculum is designed by highly qualified and skilled teachers who keep the interest of the students in mind while designing the curriculum. These teachers go through professional training to understand the teaching methods adopted at Brain Hurricane before teaching the students. The curriculum designed contains all the relevant content and aligns with the national and state standards.
Recently, Brain Hurricane conducted a survey which involved 253 parents whose children studied this program in the school year 2008-2009 under the Chicago Public School system. The results of the survey revealed that 68.7% parents strongly agreed that their child liked the Brain Hurricane program. 68.1% said that they would definitely recommend this program to other parents. 72.2% parents said that they would love to sign up their child for this program again and 75% of the students agreed strongly that they liked their Brain Hurricane instructor.
