Brain Hurricane—Helps In Building Self Esteem And Confidence Of Students

Brain Hurricane is a family business which was introduced by Reed Howard. It is a free tutoring service for the students from kindergarten to eighth grade. Reed Howard has a teaching experience of over 35 years and has done everything within her power to create an efficient way of teaching which not only clears the concepts of the students but also lessens the burden of cramming on them.

The teaching methods adopted at Brain Hurricane help the teachers in building the self esteem and confidence of the students. The teachers undergo professional training to understand these teaching methods. These methods are entirely different from ordinary method of lectures where the attention of students easily drifts away. The curriculum designed by the teachers aligns with national and state standards and the interest of students is kept in mind while creating it. It contains all the relevant content and also consists of short fiction stories that are of interest to all age groups.

Brain Hurricane contracted with CREP and provided its complete 2007-2008 database of the scores of the students in all the pre and posttest administrations of age appropriate Iowa Tests of Basic Skills (ITBS) assessments to it. CREP which stands for the "Center of Research in Educational Policy" at the University of Memphis evaluates "what works" in schools across nation. On comparing both the pre and posttest ITBS assessments, it was observed that the students of Brain Hurricane showed average gains of around 14%. This evaluation proved that the stress laid on reading skills and mathematics of students helped them to achieve better grades and test scores.

At Brain Hurricane, students are taught in a complete fun manner. Various movement activities like Spelling Jump Rope and Multiplication Basketball are performed at the beginning of each day which helps in making the students attentive in the class.
